Colgate still sell toothpaste ‘for black people’ in Asia

I didn’t wake up this morning expected to be offended by a tube of toothpaste, but that’s exactly what has happened.

I read this article about Darlie toothpaste, a brand of toothpaste that I’d heard of before. I knew that it was previously called ‘Darkie’ toothpaste, and that people weren’t exactly happy about that, so Colgate changed it to ‘Darlie’ in the 90s.

But what I didn’t realise was that the toothpaste was still being sold, with this kind of imagery on the front cover.

Needless to say I just about choked on my cornflakes, especially considering I knew that it was Colgate behind this product. How is this still being sold?

Supposedly this toothpaste has even cropped up in Asian stores in Europe and North America.

It’s crazy how outrageously offensive things like this can carry on existing in our world.
